Madonnari Master Series Starts at ICON
ICON Gallery and The Society of Fairfield Italian Americans (SOFIA) have come together to present the Master Madonnari Artist Series to be held around the June 4th All Things Italian Street Festival.
An introductory talk will be given at ICON Gallery on Thursday June 3rd at 8pm by Nedo Consoli, Master Madonnaro and head of Italy's Madonnari Associazione D'Italia, It is open to the public and will include a discussion of the history of the 500 year-old tradition of Madonnari and its expression today. On Friday, a free workshop will begin at 10 am. It will be open only to all artists interested in learning the chalk art technique of Madonnari, Some artists will then create art pieces in the early afternoon with an option to continue through the evening which will be able to be viewed on Fairfield streets on the Square on the night of the Festival.
"We are seeing a global resurgence of interest in street chalk painting, " says ICON Director Bill Teeple. “Nedo is one of the people who helped bring this movement about. He is known for the unique relationship he creates with the audience. For him, Madonnari is more than producing a product - it’s a performance. We are very much looking forward to his visit to Fairfield .”
